Higher educational institutions are being closed one after another in the wake of the earthquake panic. After Dhaka University was closed for 15 days yesterday, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Jagannath University have also announced the suspension of academic activities today (November 23).

The authorities have declared Sir Salimullah Medical College in Old Dhaka closed until November 30 of this month. College principal Dr. Mazharul Islam Shaheen said that all classes and examinations have been suspended after the earthquake, giving utmost importance to the safety of students.

Although the college authorities have ordered students to leave the hall, several students are still staying in the hall. The principal said that a decision will be made to resume academic activities when the situation normalizes.

For the same reason, the university administration has also declared Jagannath University (JnU) closed for four days. It was decided in an emergency meeting on Sunday that all classes and examinations will be closed until next Thursday (November 27). The students have been ordered to leave the hall by 10 am tomorrow, Monday.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim said that a monitoring committee has been formed to check the safety of the buildings. The expert team has been asked to submit a report by December 4 after the building inspection. During that period, online classes will continue from November 30 to December 4.

Earlier, DU announced a 15-day closure yesterday, Saturday and ordered students to leave the halls by 5 pm today.
