Situation will become more complicated in case of delay in elections: Moyeen Khan
BNP Standing Committee member and former Science and Technology Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan had said that everyone has agreed on holding elections in December this year and that the situation will become more complicated if these elections are not being arranged by December.
He said: "If the elections are postponed, there will be widespread dissatisfaction among the people, which may lead to some unrest. We will try to convince the interim government to leave with dignity."
He said this in an interview with news agency Reuters. He is currently in the United States for a meeting with US officials on the situation in Bangladesh.
Stating that the BNP wants a democratically elected government within this year, he said: "We will try to convince the interim government that it is best for them to hold elections as soon as possible and leave with dignity."
He gave this warning on behalf of the BNP after the chief adviser said that the elections will be held between December this year and June next year.
Mentioning about a BNP survey, he said that if the election is held within the next year, BNP will easily win with a majority.
Regarding the return of the party's acting chairperson Tarique Rahman to Dhaka, he said: "He can return to Dhaka if the election date is announced. Recently, several court verdicts against Tarique Rahman and Khaleda Zia have been overturned. This has paved the way for Tarique Rahman to return to the country."
Regarding the return of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to politics, he said: "She is much better now than she was in Bangladesh. However, the possibility of her returning to active politics is low."
At the same time, he said that BNP has no plans to participate in the next election through an alliance. If BNP is elected, it wants to work with other parties. National Citizen Party may also be there.
