Police have arrested six activists of the banned Awami League (AL) during an alleged secret meeting at a restaurant in the capital’s Gulshan area, police said Saturday (August 8).

The arrests were made late Friday after Gulshan police received information that several activists of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, had gathered for a meeting at a restaurant on the fifth floor of Police Plaza.

The six arrested were identified as Mohammad Mehedi Masud Chowdhury, 55; S.M. Rezwan Habib Alif, 33; Mohammad Nannu Mia, 38; Mohammad Aminur Rahman, 42; Sajal Ahmed, 29; and Mohammad Ibrahim Hossain, 33.

A patrol team from Gulshan Police Station conducted the raid at around 9:15pm and detained the six, police said.

Daud Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station, said, "Preliminary questioning suggests they had planned a procession in Dhaka after the meeting."

Legal proceedings against the six were underway.
