Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six members of the notorious “Kabji Kata Anwar” gang, including its second-in-command Abu Sayeed, in connection with a violent robbery on a bKash agent and subsequent attack on police in Dhaka’s Adabar area.

According to RAB officials, the arrests were made during simultaneous raids in Mohammadpur and Pirerbagh areas of the capital late Tuesday night.

The operation was confirmed on Wednesday morning (June 17) by RAB-2 CPSC Additional Superintendent of Police Muhtasim Hasan, who said drives are ongoing to arrest remaining members and recover weapons.

The incident took place on Tuesday when gang members stormed a bKash agent shop in Adabar and hacked employee Shafiqul with sharp weapons before looting around Tk 300,000 in cash and a mobile phone. The victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Following the robbery, police launched a swift operation in the Turag Housing area of Mohammadpur to arrest the suspects. However, the situation escalated when gang members — identified as Tana Amir, Chora Rubel, Abul Kashem, and Arif Hossain Joy — attacked an Adabar police team, including the officer-in-charge and a sub-inspector, using machetes.

In self-defence, police opened fire, injuring Tana Amir and Chora Rubel. Four suspects were detained from the scene, and a hammer was recovered from their possession. The injured and arrested individuals were also taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.

RAB officials said operations are continuing to apprehend other members of the gang and to recover additional weapons used in the attack.
