Six children die from measles in 24 hours, death toll rises to 459

Six children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours. Among them, one died from confirmed measles, while the other five died from symptoms, according to the latest information from the Directorate General of Health Services.

From 8:00 am on Saturday, May 16, to 8:00 am on Sunday, May 17, a total of 1,274 new suspected measles cases were detected across the country, with 243 children confirmed to have measles.

Since March 15 of this year, a total of 384 children have died from suspected measles and 75 from confirmed measles, bringing the total death toll to 459.

During the same period, 57,846 children have shown measles-like symptoms, with 42,092 admitted to hospitals and 37,744 discharged after recovery. A total of 7,767 children have been confirmed with measles.

Division-wise, Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of suspected measles deaths at 153, followed by Rajshahi division with 78 deaths. Although the situation has stabilised slightly in the last 24 hours, pressure from patient admissions at hospitals continues.
