Six farmers abducted while working in hills in Teknaf
Six local farmers were abducted by armed assailants from a hilly area at Hnila union of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place around 4:00pm in the Minabazar Konapara area on Tuesday afternoon (January 27), police and local sources said.
The abductees were identified as Mohammad Jamir, 32; Shafi Alam, 13; Mohammad Alam, also known as Mahat Alam, 18; Zahid Hossain, also known as Munna, 30; Mojaher, 60; and Mostak, 12. All are residents of the Jhimangkhali Ashrayan Project area under Hnila union.
According to locals, the farmers were working as day labourers at the foothills when a group of armed hill-based criminals arrived and took them away at gunpoint.
Ejar Hossain, father of Mohammad Alam, said his son had gone to work as usual when the armed men suddenly appeared and abducted all of them, leaving the families deeply worried.
Confirming the incident, Hoikyang police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Khokon Chandra Rudra said police had received reports of the abduction from the Minabazar Konapara hilly area and that operations were underway to recover the victims.
