At least six people were killed and 10 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and ploughed into a group of labourers waiting for work on the roadside in Bogura early Friday (August 7).

The accident took place around 5:30am in the Silkibandha area of Erulia on the Bogura–Naogaon highway.

According to police, the Dhaka-to-Naogaon passenger bus first crashed into an electric pole after the driver lost control. The vehicle then veered off the road and ran over labourers who had gathered by the roadside in search of work.

Three people died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured, who were taken to hospital for treatment. Doctors said several of the injured remain in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could increase.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the casualties, saying the identities of the victims could not be established immediately.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash and how the bus lost control.
