Six killed in road accidents in Sunamganj in a single day

A total of six people, including three members of the same family, have been killed in two separate road accidents in Sunamganj district on Monday, May 4.

In the first accident, five people died after a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway in the Jalalpur area of Chatak upazila. The deceased have been identified as Yusuf Ali of Teor Jalal village in Tahirpur upazila, his two daughters Nilufa Akter, 30, and Keya Moni, 17, his niece's husband Shahab Uddin of Binnakuli village, and the CNG driver whose identity could not be known immediately.

A bus named 'Rifat Paribahan' was heading towards Sunamganj from Sylhet while the CNG was heading towards Sylhet from Sunamganj. Upon reaching Jalalpur, the bus suddenly changed lanes and hit the CNG, causing it to veer off the road. The bus also lost control and overturned into a roadside ditch.

The CNG driver and Yusuf Ali died on the spot. The three other critically injured passengers were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where they died in the evening while undergoing treatment.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Sujan Sarkar of Sunamganj confirmed the five deaths.

In a separate accident on the Dhirai-Modanpur road in Sadar upazila, an unidentified woman was also killed.
