Six more die from Measles, related symptoms in 24 hours

Bangladesh recorded six more deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms over the past 24 hours, while 1,408 new infections and suspected cases were reported nationwide, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest figures were released on Wednesday (May 20) in the health authority’s regular surveillance report.

According to the report, three deaths were recorded in Dhaka, Sylhet and Khulna divisions — one in each division — from measles-related complications. Two more deaths were reported in Barishal division and another in Dhaka division, raising the nationwide death toll to 481 since March 15.

Health officials said 138 new measles cases were laboratory-confirmed during the last 24 hours, while another 1,270 people showed symptoms associated with the disease.

Since March 15, a total of 57,856 people across the country have reported measles-related symptoms, while 8,067 infections have been officially confirmed.

The Directorate General of Health Services also said that 45,128 patients have been admitted to hospitals with measles or related symptoms during the outbreak period.

Among them, 41,120 patients have so far recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

Health authorities continue to urge the public to remain cautious and ensure timely vaccination amid the ongoing spread of the disease.
