Six of a family burnt in gas line explosion in Dhaka
Six members of a family, including women and children, suffered burn injuries after a gas line leak triggered an explosion at their residence in Dhaka’s Agargaon area early Saturday.
They were brought to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 7:45am.
The injured have been identified as Md. Jalil Mia, 50, his wife Aneeza Begum, 40, their sons Asif Mia, 19, and Sakib Mia, 16, daughter Monira, 17, and granddaughter Eva, 6.
Afraan Mia, who brought the victims to the hospital, said his father-in-law Jalil Mia lived with his family in a house near the Islamic Foundation building adjacent to Agargaon’s Paka Market. Around 4:30am, a sudden gas line explosion occurred, leaving all six family members severely burned. They were later admitted to the DMCH Burn Unit.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the incident, noting that the victims are currently undergoing treatment.
"The severity of their burns has yet to be assessed. The local police station has been notified," he added.
