Six teenagers have been detained in connection with the murder of an 11-year-old boy in Fatullah, Narayanganj, with police alleging that the accused committed the crime out of "curiosity about what life in jail would be like".

Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi disclosed the information at a press conference at his office on Monday afternoon, April 27.

The victim, Hossain, used to sell flowers in Narayanganj city with his father. He had been missing since the morning of April 18 . His body was later recovered on Friday, April 24, from an abandoned house in the Dapa Idrakpur Bank Colony area of Fatullah railway line.

Investigators said several teenagers regularly gathered at the abandoned house and used drugs there.

According to police, three of the accused discussed among themselves on the day of the incident that a person who commits murder goes to jail, and they wanted to experience that. They then targeted Hossain as he was passing by and lured him to the house by offering him marijuana . Three other teenagers were already present there.

The group then stabbed the boy to death and fled, leaving the body inside the abandoned building.

The ages of the six detainees range from 14 to 18. One of them has given a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a court .

After recovering the body, police first arrested one suspect. Based on information obtained from him, five more teenagers were later detained.

Police have also recovered the knife used in the killing. One more suspect remains absconding in connection with the incident.
