Six tourists detained in Sajek for chanting ‘Sheikh Hasina government needed again and again’

Police have detained six tourists on the way to Sajek in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati on charges of chanting the slogans ‘Sheikh Hasina government needed again and again’ and ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’. The incident occurred around 11:30am in the Baghaihat Bazar area. Later the tourists were detained when their vehicle reached in front of Sajek thana on Friday (September 18).

Police and local sources said the six tourists were going towards Sajek in a ‘Chander Gari’. When the vehicle was crossing the Baghaihat Bazar area some of them allegedly chanted ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’ and ‘Sheikh Hasina government needed again and again’. Tension was created among locals over this and the matter was informed to the police. Later when the vehicle reached in front of Sajek thana police detained the six persons.

The detained persons are Fardin Ehsan Hridoy of Borchal village in Brahmanbaria, Yasin, Sushanto Pal of Habiganj, Harun Islam Tushar, Riaz Uddin Bhuiyan and Mo Saiful Islam of West Subidkhali area in Patuakhali.

Officer-in-charge of Sajek thana Tofael Ahmed confirmed the detention and said the six tourists were detained around noon. There are allegations against them of chanting various slogans in favour of the banned Awami League. The detained persons are currently in the custody of Sajek thana.

Police said preparation is underway to file a case against the detained persons under the Anti-Terrorism Act. After completing the legal process they will be produced before the court.
