Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin has said a four- to six-layer security system has been put in place in the capital, considering the potential risks of the city emptying out during the holidays and around Eid congregations. He also said 15,000 police personnel will be deployed in the capital for Eid, with an additional 1,500 at Eid prayer grounds.

The DMP commissioner made the remarks after inspecting security arrangements at the National Eidgah on Wednesday afternoon, May 27.

He said cyber patrol teams are monitoring online activities and exercising caution regarding cyber propaganda. Police leave has been restricted except for emergencies.

The commissioner said DMP developed the security plan analysing the current security situation, past experiences and potential risks, given that millions of worshippers will gather at the National Eidgah, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and other Eid congregations across the metropolis, while many areas will become partially empty as large numbers leave Dhaka for the holidays.

DMP's cyber unit is conducting round-the-clock monitoring to prevent rumours, propaganda and misinformation on social media. Any provocative propaganda or attempts to deteriorate law and order will be strictly dealt with.
