Six-member cabinet committee formed to tackle energy, power crisis

The government has formed a six-member high-level cabinet committee to tackle the crisis in the energy and power sectors amid the global situation created by the Middle East conflict. A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on April 9 and was published on the division's website on Monday, April 13.

The finance minister has been made the convener of the six-member cabinet committee. The other members are the ministers for power, energy and mineral resources, and commerce, along with the secretaries of the Finance Division, Power Division, and Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The notification stated that the cabinet committee has been formed to prepare proposals for adjusting wholesale and retail electricity tariffs to address the growing crisis in the energy and power sectors amid the ongoing global situation. The order is effective immediately.

According to the committee's terms of reference, it will conduct a detailed review and formulate specific proposals for adjusting wholesale and retail electricity tariffs to resolve the growing crisis in the energy and power sectors amid the ongoing global situation, to be placed before the cabinet.

The committee may co-opt members as necessary. Meetings will be held as required, and the Power Division will provide secretarial support to the committee.
