Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain on Saturday acknowledged that there has been a slight deterioration in the performance of law enforcement agencies in recent times.

Speaking to reporters at noon following an inspection of the Jail Canal, Port Road, and Steamer Ghat areas in Barishal, the adviser pointed to several reasons behind the decline.

"There has been some deterioration in certain aspects of law enforcement. One of the reasons is that, unlike before, we can no longer take immediate action against individuals. This has led to some setbacks, which even the Home Affairs Adviser has admitted," he said.

Dr. Hossain emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order in the lead-up to the upcoming national election. "Law and order is a key issue before elections. We will do our best to keep the situation under control as long as we are in office. During the election, all forces will operate as directed by the Election Commission. We hope they will be able to maintain order," he added.

He also expressed hope that the next government, formed through the elections, would be one that ensures accountability. The adviser confirmed that the national election will be held in February as scheduled, under the supervision of the Election Commission.

Highlighting ongoing development efforts in the region, the adviser noted that major infrastructure projects are underway, including the construction of a six-lane highway from Bhanga to Patuakhali and the renovation of roads, waterways, and rivers in Barishal.

Earlier in the day, at around 10:30 AM, Dr. Hossain held a coordination meeting at the Circuit House with the Divisional Commissioner, district administration, police, Roads and Highways Department, and other relevant stakeholders.
