Slogans for Sheikh Hasina at concert in Gopalganj, organizer arrested under anti-terrorism law

Tension has been created over slogans in the name of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a concert organised on the occasion of the grand opening of FNF Party Center and Convention Hall in Gopalganj Poura Park. As the situation could not be brought under control the programme was stopped around 9:15pm on Monday night.

At this concert that started in the evening on Monday (September 7) Mainul Ahsan Nobel, who took part in the music-related reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ of Zee Bangla of Kolkata, performed as a guest artist.

During the programme a section of the audience started giving slogans in favour of Sheikh Hasina. At that time the organisers tried to stop the slogans. An announcement was also made from the stage that this is not any political programme. However as the slogans continued even after that and the situation did not become normal the concert was stopped around 9:15pm.

Meanwhile police have arrested Hafizur Rahman Piyal, owner of the organising organisation, on the charge of organising the programme without police permission and creating disorder there. Gopalganj Sadar police station arrested him in the morning on Tuesday. Later when he was produced in court the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

Police sources said Hafizur Rahman has been shown arrested in a case filed earlier under the anti-terrorism law.

Over this incident Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar police station, said Hafizur Rahman Piyal, owner of FNF Convention Hall, was detained due to the deterioration of law and order and organising the programme without permission. Later he has been sent to jail through the legal process.

Md Habibullah, police super of Gopalganj, said before organising the concert the organisers were cautioned about possible disorder. They were advised not to organise the programme. However if the programme had to be held it was said to organise it on a small scale inside their own party centre.

The police super further said the concert was organised without taking police permission. Disorder has been created there and there is the allegation that workers and supporters of the banned organisation gathered. For these reasons Hafizur Rahman Piyal has been arrested. Later he was sent to jail through the court.
