SN Nazrul Islam takes over as Acting DMP Commissioner

Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Nazrul Islam has assumed charge as acting commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) following the retirement of Md Sarwar after completing his service tenure.

According to DMP sources, the formal handover took place around 10:30pm on Thursday (May 14) at the DMP headquarters on Abdul Gani Road in Dhaka.

Nazrul Islam said Md Sarwar retired in accordance with government regulations, and that he has been assigned the responsibility as the senior-most officer until a new commissioner is appointed.

Officials said although Nazrul Islam was recently transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he has not yet joined his new post and has been given temporary charge of the DMP.

Md Sarwar had been serving as acting commissioner since March 26, following the resignation of then DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on February 25, who cited personal and family reasons. His contractual tenure was scheduled to continue until November.

Nazrul Islam had been serving as Additional Commissioner of the Crime and Operations Division since December 27, 2024.
