Snatching by stopping rickshaw, pocket-cutting video goes viral

Two persons have been accused of snatching money and mobile phone from a passenger by stopping a rickshaw and showing a knife in Satish Babu Lane behind Kotwali thana of Chattogram city. At that time one held a knife while the other tried to take out something by cutting the passenger’s pocket with a knife. A video of the incident has spread on social media.

In the spread video it is seen that two persons stop a rickshaw and try to forcibly take something from the passenger. One is pointing a knife at the passenger while the other is trying to take out something from the right pocket of his pant. The passenger is heard saying at one stage, ‘Are bhai, I am giving it.’

At one stage of the passenger’s movement one snatcher is seen striking his left leg with the knife in the video. Later unable to take out the things from the pocket he cuts the pocket with the knife. At that time the other person was standing beside the passenger with a knife in hand.

Seeing the incident several residents from nearby buildings started shouting. Later the two persons got on a battery-run autorickshaw and fled the scene. It is learnt that they took away the rickshaw passenger’s money and mobile phone amid the shouts of the locals.

When the video of the incident spread on social media on Saturday morning discussion started on the matter. It has been claimed on social media that the incident occurred early on Saturday morning. However police could not confirm exactly when the incident took place.

Officer-in-charge of Kotwali thana Abu Zayed Mohammad Nazmun Nur said the video has come to the notice of the police. However no victim has come to the thana to lodge a complaint in this incident. After knowing the matter police patrol in that area has been intensified.
