Sohag Murder Case: 2 more arrested, bringing total to 7
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested two more suspects in connection with the brutal public killing of businessman Lal Chand Sohag, 39, a scrap metal trader, on the premises of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.
The detainees identified as Rajib and Sajib. They were apprehended during a drive in Dhaka and surrounding areas on Sunday (July 13).
According to DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam, a total of seven individuals have now been arrested in the case. Rajib is accused of striking Sohag with a stone, dragging his body to the street, and jumping on it.
Earlier, five other suspects were detained: Titon Gazi, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, Tarique Rahman Robin, 22, Alamgir Hossain, 28, and Monir Hossain alias Chhoto Monir, 25. RAB-10 arrested Monir and Alamgir from Keraniganj on Friday, while Mohin and Robin were held earlier by police.
The brutal killing took place on Wednesday in broad daylight in front of Mitford Hospital. CCTV footage showed the victim being summoned, assaulted with bricks and stones, stripped, and stomped on by a group of individuals. Sohag died at the scene.
According to police and family sources, Sohag was lured by individuals known to him. His sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station on Thursday, naming 19 individuals and listing 15–20 others as unidentified suspects.
Based on video evidence, four additional individuals have been identified: Mitford Hospital outsourcing worker Md Monir, ambulance driver Nannu, expelled Chawkbazar Thana Chhatra Dal leader Apu Das, and former Jubo Dal member Sarwar Hossain Titu. Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal have permanently expelled five people involved in the incident.
