Sohag Murder case: 3 accused confess to court

Three accused have confessed to their involvement in the scrap trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag, 39 in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford Hospital) in Old Dhaka.

Following their confessional statements recorded in three separate courts in Dhaka on Thursday (July 17), they were sent to jail.

The accused—Titon Gazi, Md Alamgir, and Monir alias Lomba Monir — were produced in court by Kotwali police following multiple remand periods. They voluntarily gave confessional statements, which were recorded by Metropolitan magistrates- Md Monirul Islam, Mohammad Ehsanul Islam and Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid, upon request by the investigation officer and Kotwali Police Station OC Md Moniruzzaman.

Sohag was brutally killed on the evening of July 9 on Rajni Ghosh Lane near Gate No. 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital. A murder case was filed the next day by his sister, Manjuara Begum, naming 19 individuals and 15 to 20 unidentified others.

Police have so far arrested nine people in connection with the murder. A separate arms case has also been filed in relation to the incident.
