Sohag murder case: 3 more placed on seven-day remand
A Dhaka court on Wednesday (July 16) placed three suspects on a seven-day remand each in connection with the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag in the capital's Mitford area.
The accused — Mohammad Nannu Kazi, Tarek Rahman Robin, and Rizwan Uddin — were produced before the court by police, who had sought 10 days of remand for each. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman granted seven days.
The remand orders come as part of an ongoing investigation into the July 9 murder of Sohag, 43, who was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.
Multiple suspects have already been remanded in the case. On July 16, Mahmudul Hasan Mahin was placed on a five-day remand, following an earlier five-day remand issued on July 10.
Two brothers, Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari, were also remanded for five days on July 14, while Alamgir and Monir were placed on four-day remands on July 13. Another accused, Titon Gazi, was remanded for five days on July 12.
The case was filed by the victim’s sister, Monjuara Begum, on July 10, a day after the attack. Police continue to investigate the motive and identify all those involved in the coordinated assault.
