Sohag Murder: Mirza Fakhrul demands quick trial of real culprits
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has demanded the quick arrest and trial of those responsible for the recent murder of businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag in Old Dhaka.
He made the remarks on Saturday (July 12) at a meeting in Gulshan with the families of Chhatra Dal activists killed during the July-August uprising.
Mirza Fakhrul warned the government that if the real criminals are not brought to justice, the people will hold the authorities responsible. "The nation will not forgive. These crimes are happening because there is no elected government," he said.
He also stated that BNP believes in justice and the rule of law, and urged party supporters to remain patient, promising that democracy will return.
Fakhrul further said BNP wants reforms in the state system and fair elections, as there is no alternative to democracy. He proposed honouring the martyred activists and supporting affected families if BNP comes to power.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman also joined the event virtually. Other senior BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Rakibul Islam Bakul, were present there.
