Former state minister for home affairs Sohail Taj was stopped at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while on his way to the United States.

On Friday, September 26, his sister Mahjabin Ahmed Mimi, daughter of Tajuddin Ahmed, confirmed the matter to the media.

She said, “Sohail Taj has been barred from traveling abroad.” When asked about the timing, Mimi said, “It probably happened on Wednesday.”

Immigration authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed that a “travel ban” prevented him from leaving the country.

Sohail Taj was elected a Member of Parliament from Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) in the 2001 elections during the Awami League government.

He was re-elected from the same constituency in 2008. On January 6, 2009, he was appointed state minister for home affairs in the Awami League-led cabinet.

On May 31 the same year, he resigned from the cabinet citing “personal reasons.” Later, on 23 April 2012, Sohail Taj also resigned from parliament.
