Sohel Taj on replacing 7th March speech with July uprising in textbooks
Former state minister for home affairs Sohel Taj has said that denying the new generation access to true history will prevent Bangladesh from having a bright future.
He made the remark on Sunday, November 23, in a post on his verified Facebook page.
He shared three pictures—one from the online portal Dainik Shiksha showing the headline “7 March speech removed from textbooks, July uprising added”, and two photos of George Orwell’s books Animal Farm and 1984, which he recommended for everyone to read.
His full statement is as follows:
“When any party or group in power conceals or distorts history and writes a new one for their own benefit, the new generation becomes confused, patriotism does not rise, and we remain trapped in corruption, irregularities and disorder.
“2024 freed Bangladesh from authoritarian, undemocratic misrule, and 1971 gave us an independent nation. If the new generation is denied the right to true history, Bangladesh’s future will never be bright.”
