Some clues found in Opritom murder: police

Police have taken one person into custody and are interrogating him in connection with the murder of school student Ishayat Shahriar Opritom, son of associate professor Nahida Begum of Bangla department of Comilla University. District police have said some clues have been found in this incident.

Superintendent of police of Cumilla Md Anisuzzaman informed journalists of this information in the afternoon on Saturday (September 19). He said some clues have been found in the Opritom murder incident. Police are working on those. However he did not disclose the identity of the person taken into custody for interrogation.

13-year-old Opritom was a seventh-grade student of Border Guard Public School of Comilla. He went out with his mother’s iPhone to take photos with friends from the house in Kotbari area of Ward No 24 under Cumilla Sadar Dakshin thana around 3:30pm on Friday. After that he did not return home.

Failing to find him after searching in various possible places his father KM Firoz Shahriar filed a general diary at Cumilla Sadar Dakshin thana.

Opritom’s body was recovered from the foothills of the south intersection of Salmanpur area adjacent to Comilla University campus at noon on Saturday. Later police recovered his body and sent it for autopsy.

Teachers of the university have said the iPhone of his mother that was with Opritom has also not been found yet. For this reason they are initially assuming that he may have been killed with the intention of snatching the phone. However the reason for the murder or who are involved in the incident is not yet confirmed.

Police have said attempts are on to uncover the mystery of the murder by interrogating the person in custody and verifying various information and data.
