Some parties’ absence in signing July Charter will not affect election: Salahuddin
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the absence of some political parties in the signing ceremony of the July National Charter 2025 will not have any major impact on the upcoming national election.
“From what I know, the NCP and four leftist parties could not attend the signing ceremony. I will not say they refused to sign, as the opportunity remains open. I believe they will sign it in future,” he said while speaking to journalists after paying tribute at the mausoleum of BNP founder and late President Ziaur Rahman on Saturday, October 18, marking the 26th anniversary of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF).
He added, “We believe that tolerance will prevail among all. They may have some demands or concerns, but eventually, they too will sign the July Charter. In democracy, complete unanimity is not expected—differences of opinion will exist.”
Commenting on allegations by the July Warriors that their contributions were not properly recognised in the Charter, Salahuddin said, “The July Warriors organisation also spoke to us and the Consensus Commission. Their demands were reasonable. I personally voiced support for them. Professor Ali Riaz, the commission’s vice-chairman, addressed their issues appropriately and announced amendments. Therefore, there should be no reason for further dissatisfaction.”
He added, “Investigations show that certain unruly individuals and self-proclaimed students infiltrated under the banner of July Warriors. I believe these were members of the fascist forces of the Awami regime, who are still trying to create chaos wherever they can. Genuine July Warriors or participants in the July uprising could not have been involved in such disorder.”
