Son cuts mother's throat, injures father over drug money in Khagrachhari

A young man has been caught by local residents and handed over to the police for allegedly cutting his mother's throat and injuring his father in Khagrachhari's Matiranga upazila. Locals claim the attack was the result of a dispute over money for drugs.

The incident occurred around 1:00 am on Friday (March 7) in the Belchhari Camptila area. The victims, Amena Begum (60) and her husband Mohammad Abdur Rahim (70), were critically injured. The accused, Abul Kalam (38), is their son.

According to locals, Abul Kalam attacked his mother, Amena Begum, by cutting her throat for money to buy drugs. When his father, Abdur Rahim, tried to intervene, he was also attacked and injured. Hearing their cries, neighbors rushed to the scene and took the victims to the local health complex. Due to their critical condition, the victims were later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Immediately after the incident, Abul Kalam was caught by locals while fleeing. He was later handed over to the police.

Matiranga Police Station OC Tofiqul Islam Toufiq confirem the matter. He said, "Legal process is ongoing."
