Son stabbed to death by father while trying to save mother in Mirsarai

A university student was stabbed to death by his father in Mirsarai of Chattogram during a domestic dispute.

The incident took place in the West Mayani Ghori Market area of Mayani Union on Wednesday (September 11).

The deceased has been identified as Md. Shahed, 22, was a student of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Chittagong International Islamic University.

According to local and family sources, Md. Nuruzzaman, who had been working in Saudi Arabia for 15 years, recently returned to Bangladesh and married a woman from Sylhet. He brought his second wife to his home in Mirsarai on Tuesday. Upon hearing this, Shahed's mother, Kamruzzahan Begum, arrived at the house in Mirsarai on Wednesday with her son, Shahed, and two daughters.

During the a dispute over the incident, Nuruzzaman attacked Kamruzzahan Begum with a knife. When Shahed stepped in to defend his mother, he was stabbed in the chest.

Shahed was rushed to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead due to the severity of his injuries.

In response, Kamruzzahan Begum filed a murder case against her husband and his second wife.

Shahed’s aunt, Nur Jahan Begum, said, “On Tuesday, Md. Nuruzzaman married for the second time and brought his new wife home. After learning about this, I visited the house on Wednesday afternoon with local dignitaries. Upon arrival, Nuruzzaman immediately grabbed my sister, Kamruzzahan, by the hair. When Shahed stepped in to defend his mother, Nuruzzaman stabbed him in the chest.”

Dr. Aryaraj Dutta, the on-duty physician at Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, confirmed, "The victim was pronounced dead prior to arriving at the hospital. Preliminary assessments suggest that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest, leading to severe blood loss."

Confirming the matter, Mirsarai Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahidul Islam, said, "A murder case has been filed against Nuruzzaman and his second wife on Wednesday night. Operations are underway to apprehend the accused."
