Son stabs father to death, injures mother and brother in Shibpur

A man named Abdul Bashed Mia (65) was killed in a knife attack by his son in Shibpur, Narsingdi. His wife and another son were also injured in the incident. The attack took place at their home in the Bharaterkandi Eastpara village of the upazila early on Friday, September 4.

The deceased, Abdul Bashed, was the son of late Yunus Ali of the same village. The accused in the incident is his son Shakil Chowdhury (35), a construction worker. Police said he fled the house after the incident.

According to police and family members, the father and son were sleeping in the same room on Thursday night. Early Friday morning, other family members rushed to the room after hearing screams. They found Shakil stabbing his father.

When family members tried to intervene, Shakil also attacked his mother Sakhina Begum and brother Nurunnabi Rashed with a sharp weapon. He then fled the scene. Abdul Bashed died on the spot from his injuries.

Family members said there was no known family dispute between Abdul Bashed and Shakil. The reason behind the attack could not be immediately ascertained.

Police from Shibpur Model Police Station recovered the body and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured Sakhina Begum and Nurunnabi Rashed are currently undergoing treatment at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Shibpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kohinoor Mia said legal action is being processed. Along with investigating the cause of the murder, operations are underway to arrest the accused Shakil.
