A special nationwide operation will soon be launched to curb human trafficking and drug abuse in vulnerable areas of the country, including Teknaf in Cox's Bazar, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced.

The home minister made the remarks as chief guest at a Krishak Card distribution programme held at Teknaf Ejahar Government High School on Tuesday afternoon, April 14. At the start of the event, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the Krishak Card distribution activities via video conference from Dhaka and Tangail.

The home minister said drugs have now turned into a serious social malady, dangerously leading the country's youth astray. The government has therefore taken a firm stance and preparations are underway to take coordinated measures.

On human trafficking, he said Teknaf, Ukhia and some areas of Cox's Bazar have been identified as vulnerable. Law enforcement agencies have been given necessary directives to prevent human trafficking in these areas. The points used to commit these crimes will be identified, and operations will be conducted in a well-organised and planned manner. He said the government is fully committed to stopping human trafficking and bringing criminals to justice.

Alongside his anti-drug stance, the minister expressed concern over the spread of online gambling. He said online gambling is spreading at an alarming rate, negatively impacting society. The government has already begun research to stop these illegal activities.

On Krishak Card distribution, the home minister said BNP began implementing its promises to the people before the ink of the vote had even dried. Farmers are the backbone of the country's economy, and a historic initiative has been taken to develop them through the distribution of Krishak Cards.

Finally, seeking cooperation from the media and the general public, the home minister said law enforcement agencies can work more effectively if accurate and timely information is provided. He expressed optimism that through collective efforts, the overall welfare of the country can be ensured and public safety strengthened.

Special guests at the event included Cox's Bazar-2 MP Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid, Cox's Bazar-3 MP Lutfor Rahman Kajol and Cox's Bazar-4 MP Shahjahan Chowdhury. Also present were BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan and Superintendent of Police Sazedur Rahman, along with senior administration officials.
