Special trains approved as per rules: Railway Ministry
The Ministry of Railways has clarified that no operational rules were violated in allowing three pairs of special trains for the upcoming rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on July 19. This clarification comes amid widespread speculation and misinformation circulating on social media.
In a press release issued Friday evening, Rezaul Karim Siddique, Public Relations Officer of the ministry, stated that the Bangladesh Railway approved the special trains following a formal request from the political party. He emphasized that such approvals are routine and in line with past practices.
“Bangladesh Railway has a precedent of operating special trains for large political events upon request, subject to fare payment. This is a regular administrative and commercial process,” the release said.
The ministry also noted that denying such requests could lead to a surge in ticketless travel, causing both logistical challenges and revenue loss. Special trains, by contrast, ensure organized travel and proper fare collection.
According to the release, Jamaat-e-Islami has paid approximately Tk 3.2 million in advance for the service, contributing to railway revenue. The trains will be operated using rakes that are usually inactive on weekly off-days, and Saturday’s reduced passenger demand ensures no disruption to regular services.
“This decision is purely commercial and has no political affiliation,” the ministry added. “Similar decisions will be considered for any political party based on formal applications. There is no room for confusion or misinformation.”
