BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stressed that sports and sporting venues should be kept free from political influence.

Speaking at the final match and closing ceremony of the Mirza Ruhul Amin Memorial Tournament held at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon on Friday afternoon, Fakhrul urged that political divisions should not enter the world of sports.

“Sports arenas must remain free of partisan politics to ensure unity and fair play,” he said.

Highlighting the recent student and public uprisings, he said these movements have created new opportunities to strengthen democracy. “We must stay united. Over the past 15 years, many institutions in the country have been destroyed. Now is the time to rebuild and renew these institutions to reconstruct the nation,” he added.

Fakhrul also paid tribute to local sports enthusiasts from his district and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the martyrs of the student and public uprisings for their sacrifices.

The event was attended by prominent local BNP leaders including Thakurgaon BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Thakurgaon Municipal BNP President Shariful Islam Sharif, and tournament convener Noore Shahadat Swajan.
