SSC examinee hacked to death in Dhamrai

A female SSC examinee was bruttaly hacked to death after assailants entered her home in Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The incident took place at Lakuripara area under Dhamrai municipality on Thursday evening (April 23).

The deceased, Nahida Akter, 16, was a student of Dhaka Central School and was sitting for the ongoing SSC examinations in the commerce stream.

Nahida lived with her grandmother as her parents were away—her mother works abroad and her father resides in Barishal.

According to family and police sources, the attack occurred while Nahida’s grandmother had briefly stepped out to buy milk. Upon returning, she found Nahida lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Locals later rushed her to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital at Nayarhat in Savar, where doctors declared her dead.

Family members alleged that the attackers broke into the house and repeatedly stabbed Nahida with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene, also looting gold ornaments from her neck and ears.

Dhamrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Huda said police visited the scene after receiving the report around 8:00pm. The motive behind the killing and the identities of the attackers remain unknown, and an investigation is underway.

The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, he added.
