Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has confirmed that the modernisation process of the Special Security Force’s (SSF) training, weapons, and equipment is currently ongoing. He highlighted that some SSF vehicles and equipment were damaged on August 5 but were quickly restored to full functionality.

Speaking at the 39th anniversary celebration of the SSF on Wednesday (June 18), Professor Yunus expressed gratitude for being invited to the event. “Although the SSF is a relatively small force compared to others, its responsibilities are highly significant and sensitive. The force operates under my leadership and supervision,” he said.

Professor Yunus praised the professionalism and dedication of the SSF, emphasizing their role in ensuring the continuous security of both himself and the President. “Over the past 10 months, the SSF has efficiently handled numerous critical assignments both domestically and internationally. I extend my thanks to all members for their commitment,” he added.

The SSF is responsible for securing key locations including Bangabhaban, the Chief Advisor’s residence and office, and managing the safety of all movements. It also plays a vital role in securing events across Dhaka and other parts of the country. Recently, the SSF successfully coordinated security for visits to Cox’s Bazar, the Rohingya camps, Chittagong port, and the convocation ceremony at Chittagong University.

Furthermore, during international state visits, the SSF worked closely with embassies and foreign security protocols to ensure smooth and secure travels. The force also managed the overall security for the state visits of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the President of East Timor, and the UN Secretary-General to Bangladesh.

Acknowledging the evolving nature of security threats due to advances in technology and information exchange, Professor Yunus stressed the challenge of providing absolute security. “Despite these challenges, the SSF is effectively ensuring security and regularly reviews threats to prepare accordingly,” he said.

He added that recent efforts include strengthening the cyber security system of the Jamuna and plans to enhance cyber security measures at his office. The SSF, as a professional force, aims to continue improving through advanced training, technology, and morale.
