Starlink officially launches satellite internet service in Bangladesh
SpaceX’s satellite internet service, Starlink, has officially commenced operations in Bangladesh, offering a new solution for remote and broadband-deprived areas.
The service launch was announced on Friday at a press conference held at Hotel InterContinental, Dhaka. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, revealed that Starlink will provide high-speed internet to hard-to-reach regions including mountainous terrains, river islands, and border areas lacking fiber optic connectivity.
A high-level delegation from Starlink, including Loren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations, and Richard Griffiths, Director of International Strategy and Government Relations, was present at the event.
The initiative, driven by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, marks a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure.
After nearly three months of trial services, Starlink received a 10-year Satellite Operator License and Radio Communication Apparatus License from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), officially launching on Friday.
To subscribe, customers must purchase a setup kit costing 42,000 taka, which includes a satellite dish, router, power supply, and necessary equipment. Starlink offers two monthly packages:
Residential Package: 6,000 taka, providing unlimited internet with speeds up to 300 Mbps.
Starlink Light Package: 4,200 taka, offering uninterrupted internet at a lower price.
This launch is expected to bridge the digital divide by bringing reliable high-speed internet to underserved communities across Bangladesh.
