State Minister meets Libyan Ambassador

Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdul Mutalib SM Sulaiman paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam.

The meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the long-standing friendly relations and growing bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Libya on Monday (April 6).

During the meeting, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs thanked the Libyan government for creating employment opportunities for a significant number of Bangladeshi workers and professionals and taking the initiative to recruit medical personnel from Bangladesh. He expressed gratitude to the Libyan authorities for ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates in Libya and assisting in the repatriation of stranded citizens.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the energy, infrastructure, pharmaceutical industry and manpower sectors with a view to increasing trade and investment. At the time, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs proposed the formation of a Bangladesh-Libya Joint Business Forum to expand bilateral trade and economic relations.

Ambassador Sulaiman reiterated Libya's commitment to increase cooperation in various sectors including energy and manpower and assured continued support to Bangladeshi citizens residing in Libya.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs also emphasized the need to increase people-to-people contacts between the two countries, including cultural and sports exchanges. He also emphasized the need to increase regular meetings and high-level visits to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Ambassador reiterated Libya's strong commitment to further strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries
