Statement issued over misleading posts by 'hacking' Jamaat Ameer's X handle
Jamaat-e-Islami has claimed that there has been a cyber attack on the social media accounts of some of the party's top leaders, including the official X (former Twitter) handle of the party's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
This information was given in an official statement on Sunday (February 1) by the party's Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair.
In the statement, he said, 'The central campaign team of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has confirmed that recently there has been a cyber attack on the social media accounts of some of the party's senior leaders, including the official X (former Twitter) handle of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.'
'Using a highly coordinated method, the attackers temporarily took control of the Jamaat Ameer's X (former Twitter) account. However, through quick action and existing security measures, our cyber team was able to regain control within a short time. As a result, it has been possible to ensure the security of other accounts and platforms.'
The statement also read: 'In this short period of time, an unwanted post was published, where false statements were spread in the name of Jamaat Ameer. We clearly state that the said post/content does not reflect any statement, opinion or position of Jamaat Ameer. It is completely false and misleading. I condemn and protest the spreading of this false information.'
'We request the general public, media workers and social media users to be extremely cautious about fake news, fake quotes and misleading information. Spreading false information, forging identities and creating and spreading distorted content are legally punishable and morally reprehensible. These harm the democratic environment.'
'Request to everyone, verify information only from official and trusted sources - do not share any content without verification and report suspicious or misleading content if you see it,' it added.
'The campaign team is fully committed to maintaining transparency, digital security and credibility in communicating with the public. More information will be provided later if necessary.'
The statement said: 'I urge all concerned to refrain from such immoral activities in the future.'
Earlier, negative comments about women came from the Jamaat Ameer's X account. In it, comments were found derogatory towards women.
