The case documents that went missing from the corridor in front of the Public Prosecutor's room at Chattogram Metropolitan Court were sold at a scrap shop in the Patharghata area for Tk 16 per kilogram. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Abdul Karim told media after police recovered nine sacks of the missing case documents today. After analysing CCTV footage from the court over the past two days, police detained a young man and recovered the missing files based on his confession. Police said the detainee used to sell tea on the court premises but did not disclose his name. On January 5, case documents of 1,911 cases went missing from the Chattogram court building, causing a stir in the court area.

চট্টগ্রাম মহানগর আদালতের পাবলিক প্রসিকিউটরের কক্ষের সামনের করিডোর থেকে গায়েব হওয়া মামলাগুলোর নথি ভাঙারির দোকানে কেজিপ্রতি ১৬ টাকায় বিক্রি করা হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পুলিশ। কোতোয়ালি থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) আব্দুল করিম জানিয়েছেন, আজ গায়েব হওয়া নয় বস্তা মামলার নথি উদ্ধার করেছে পুলিশ। পুলিশ জানায়, গত দুই দিনের সিসিটিভি ফুটেজ বিশ্লেষণ করে পুলিশ এক যুবককে আটক করেছে এবং তার স্বীকারোক্তির ভিত্তিতে নথিগুলো উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। আটক যুবক আদালত প্রাঙ্গণে চা বিক্রি করতেন। তবে ওই যুবকের নাম প্রকাশ করা হয়নি। উল্লেখ্য, গত ৫ জানুয়ারি চট্টগ্রামের আদালত ভবন থেকে ১,৯১১ মামলার নথি গায়েব হওয়ার ঘটনা ঘটে। পরে এ ঘটনায় আদালত এলাকায় তোলপাড় সৃষ্টি হয়।
