Storm likely in 17 districts including Dhaka by this noon
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour across 17 districts, including the capital Dhaka, on Friday (May 1).
In a warning for inland river ports valid until 1:00pm, the weather office said temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or northwest may sweep across several regions, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.
The affected districts include Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet.
River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number one.
In a separate bulletin, the Met Office said that parts of the country may experience temporary gusty winds, lightning, rain or thundershowers throughout the day. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in some places, including Dhaka.
The forecast further indicates that similar unstable weather conditions may persist across the country over the next few days.
