The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in five districts by noon today, warning that wind speeds may reach up to 60 kilometres per hour. In an inland river port forecast valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, the weather office advised river ports in the affected areas to hoist signal No. 1. According to the forecast, temporary gusty or squally winds along with rain or thundershowers may sweep over the regions of Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Cumilla and Sylhet from the west or northwest at speeds of 45-60 kmph. Authorities concerned have been asked to remain alert in the affected river port areas.

দেশের পাঁচ জেলায় দুপুরের মধ্যে ৪৫ থেকে ৬০ কিলোমিটার বেগে অস্থায়ীভাবে দমকা অথবা ঝোড়ো হাওয়াসহ বজ্রবৃষ্টির পূর্বাভাস দিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর (বিএমডি)। একই সঙ্গে এসব এলাকার নদী বন্দরগুলোকে ১ নম্বর সতর্কতা সংকেত দেখাতে বলা হয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার (১৯ মে) ভোর ৫টা থেকে দুপুর ১টা পর্যন্ত দেশের অভ্যন্তরীণ নদী বন্দরসমূহের জন্য দেওয়া এক পূর্বাভাসে এই তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে। পূর্বাভাসে বলা হয়েছে, ঢাকা, টাঙ্গাইল, ময়মনসিংহ, কুমিল্লা এবং সিলেট অঞ্চলের ওপর দিয়ে পশ্চিম বা উত্তর-পশ্চিম দিক থেকে ঘণ্টায় ৪৫ থেকে ৬০ কিলোমিটার বেগে অস্থায়ীভাবে ঝোড়ো হাওয়া বয়ে যেতে পারে। সেই সঙ্গে এসব এলাকায় বৃষ্টি অথবা বজ্রসহ বৃষ্টি হতে পারে। ঝড়-বৃষ্টির আশঙ্কায় সংশ্লিষ্ট এলাকার নদী বন্দরগুলোকে সতর্ক থাকার নির্দেশ দিয়েছে আবহাওয়া কর্তৃপক্ষ।
