Storms likely in 4 districts by noon

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds in four regions of the country by noon today. River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

The information was confirmed in a river port weather forecast issued by BMD meteorologist A K M Nazmul Haque on Thursday (June 4).

According to the weather office, temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds blowing from the west or northwest at speeds of 45–60 kmph may sweep over Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet regions by 1pm. River ports in these districts have been instructed to display Cautionary Signal No. 1.

In a regular bulletin issued on Wednesday evening, the BMD noted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are likely at many places over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions by 6pm today. Similar weather conditions may occur at a few places over the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions.

Furthermore, moderately heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Both day and night temperatures across the country may see a slight decline.

Meanwhile, a mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping over the districts of Chandpur, Noakhali, and Brahmanbaria, as well as the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal. The weather office added that these heatwave conditions are expected to continue.
