Storms with 60kmph winds, rain likely in three regions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast gusty winds and rain or thundershowers over three regions of the country.

In a weather bulletin for the country's inland river ports valid until 9:00 am on Monday, June 15, the department said temporary rain or thundershowers with gusty or squally winds blowing from the east or south-east at speeds of 45-60 kilometres per hour may occur over the regions of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet.

River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number one.

The department has advised vessels navigating river routes to exercise caution and, considering the situation, take shelter in safe locations.

Local administrations and concerned authorities have been asked to monitor the situation and take necessary measures. Extra caution has been advised for vessels and small boats operating in open water.

The meteorological department also said the frequency of such gusty winds and thundershowers may increase in various parts of the country due to the influence of the monsoon season, which may continue for the next few days.
