The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast gusty to squally winds and temporary rain or thunderstorms in six regions of the country.

The department’s Storm Warning Centre issued the forecast for the period from 5am to 1pm by Sunday afternoon (August 16), warning of gusty or squally winds reaching 45-60 kilometres per hour over Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

The winds are expected to blow from the south or southeast, accompanied by temporary rain or thundershowers, the forecast said.

River ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

In its nationwide forecast issued on Saturday night, the meteorological department said many areas of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions could experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds until 6pm Sunday.

Some areas may also experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall, it said.

The department further forecast that daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country could fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius due to the rain.
