An elderly Bangladeshi man, who had been stranded in the "No Man's Land" along the Dhanua Kamalpur border in Jamalpur's Bakshiganj upazila for nearly 24 hours, was rescued and brought to Bakshiganj Police Station after his identity was verified on Thursday morning (June 11).

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued the man around 7:30am today from the zero line near border pillar number 1082.

The rescued individual has been identified as Shashti Chandra Barman, a resident of Chandlai village in the Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district.

According to BGB sources, the elderly man had been stuck on the zero line since Wednesday. During his time at the border, he provided various details about himself. A video of him subsequently went viral on social media, prompting his family members to contact the BGB. Once his identity as a Bangladeshi citizen was confirmed, the BGB extracted him from the border area and handed him over to the local police.

The situation had previously sparked day-long tensions along the Kamalpur border on Wednesday, involving local residents, the BGB, and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), over attempts to bring the man into Bangladesh. Both border forces had maintained a strict and alert stance to keep the situation under control.

Bakshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mokbul Hossain confirmed the development, stating, "The BGB has brought an elderly man from the border to the police station. His relatives have already left Rajshahi to come here. Further legal steps will be taken to hand him over once his family arrives and the verification process is complete."
