Strict action to be taken against market manipulation: FM
Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "In the election manifesto, we said we would take all possible measures against the dishonest syndicates in the market to control prices of essentials."
"It is our priority to control the prices of daily commodities. We are working on that priority and the government will take all possible measures against the dishonest syndicates in the market," he said.
Hasan Mahmud came up with the remarks after getting a reception from the members of his constituency Rangunia Samity, Dhaka at the LD Hall premises of National Parliament on Saturday (February 24).
He said 50,000 metric tons of onions are coming to the country from India. Some onions will enter the market before Ramadan, so the market is fairly stable.
The foreign minister said, "The market's unscrupulous syndicate increases the prices of various products on various pretexts. We have seen that 150,000 eggs have been recovered from cold storage. Onion crisis was created in the past.”
Hasan Mahmud said, "Once again, when onions were imported from abroad, the onions became available in the market, then the rotten onions stored in the storage were thrown away. Our government will take all measures against such syndicates.”
