Teachers protesting for an increase in house rent allowance have decided to bring forward their announced work abstention by one day. According to the new declaration, from tomorrow, Monday, October 13, teachers of all private MPO-listed educational institutions across the country will begin an indefinite class boycott.

The work abstention has been called by the Alliance for Nationalisation of MPO-Listed Education. They are demanding a 20 percent house rent allowance based on the basic salary.

In addition, the programme has been announced in protest against the sound grenades, water cannons, and baton charges used on teachers, as well as the detention of several teachers in front of the National Press Club on Sunday.

The decision was announced by the alliance’s member secretary, Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, during a sit-in programme at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4:30pm on Sunday, October 12.

Earlier, during a sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club, the teachers had given an ultimatum to issue a circular implementing the 20 percent house rent allowance by Monday.

They had earlier said that classes at all private educational institutions across the country would be boycotted from Tuesday, October 14.

However, in protest against the use of sound grenades, water cannons, and baton charges on teachers, as well as the detention of several teachers, they have moved the work abstention one day earlier.
