At least seven students sustained injuries in a series of clashes erupted between students groups at Dhaka Alia Madrasa in Old Dhaka.

The incident took place at the Madrasa premises in Bakshibazar area on early hours of Sunday (November 23).

The injured students—Sadik, 21, Moin, 22, Ilyas, 21, Omar Faruk, 21, Abu Bakr, 22, Walid, 22, and Enamul, 22—were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with head injuries.

Police and army personnel intervened around midnight and brought the situation under control by 2:00am. Various weapons, including rods, were recovered from the madrasa premises.

According to police source, tensions escalated over a Milad Mahfil organised by the Sammilito Chhatra Parishad, where one group was not invited and a canteen was closed, sparking anger and subsequent violence.

Ashraful Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Chakbazar Police Station, confirmed about the clash. "The clashes stemmed from internal disputes between the student groups," he said.
