Student faces assault and arrest for Facebook criticism of July Uprising
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, Iskander Habibur Rahman, told the media that the student posted objectionable comments regarding the July uprising on social media.
Following the post, students from the madrasa and local residents reportedly caught the student, assaulted him, and cut his hair before handing him over to the police.
The incident took place on the campus of the Tongi branch of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa on Tuesday evening.
A case has been filed in connection with the incident.
Saidul Islam, general secretary of the madrasa’s student council, said, “Considering the concerns raised and for safety reasons, we handed the student over to the police.”
Madrasa principal Hifazur Rahman stated, “Given the sensitivity of the issue, we handed the matter over to the police to maintain law and order. The police will take further action according to the law.”
OC Iskander informed the media that the accused student was produced before a local court yesterday afternoon, which later sent him to jail.
