Student injured in Mohakhali road crash dies

An injured student from a road accident in the Amtoli area of Mohakhali, capital, has died. The deceased was Nilima Rani Sumona, 25, who passed away around 8:30 pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the One Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

She was injured late on Saturday night in a road accident in the Amtoli area of Mohakhali. Passersby rescued her and admitted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Nilima Rani Sumona was the daughter of Subash Chandra Barman of Chotokustari village in Chilmary upazila, Kurigram. She was a second-year student at the Institute of Health Technology (IHT) and also worked as a lab assistant at a private hospital in Mohakhali .

At the time of the incident, she was on a rickshaw with her colleague, beauty parlour owner Priya Chakma from Khagrachari, who was also injured . The auto-rickshaw they were travelling in lost control and overturned near the Amtoli bus stand as the driver was trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle . Sumona suffered severe head injuries while her colleague sustained a broken leg .

The body is currently kept in the hospital morgue and the police station has been informed.
