Student killed, 5 injured as shop roof collapses during Eid shopping in Lakshmipur

A student named Fahad Hossain, 17, was killed and at least five others injured when the roof of a shop collapsed while he was shopping for Eid with his mother in Ramganj, Lakshmipur.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, March 8, in an area adjacent to Sonaichhari Road, west of the Ramganj town police box.

The deceased, Fahad Hossain, was the son of Alamgir Hossain Bokul from Banshghar village in the municipality. The identities of the injured could not be immediately ascertained.

According to local sources and the victim's family, Fahad had come with his mother in the afternoon to shop for Eid from shops adjacent to Sonaichhari Road. At one point, when the mother and others went into a shop to buy clothes, Fahad was asked to wait by the roadside. Suddenly, the roof of Al-Mansur Drug House collapsed. Fahad died on the spot after being trapped under the collapsed roof. Four to five passers-by were also injured.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Ramganj Fire Service and Ramganj Thana police conducted a rescue operation.

Ramganj Thana OC Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said one person died and several others were injured after being trapped under the collapsed roof. Police forces have been deployed to the spot. It is being investigated whether the building owner was at fault, and legal action is being taken.
